Adjoa Keeps Her Shop Open After Dark

My shop is my life. Provisions, cold drinks, a freezer full of fish — everything depends on power staying on. Before, every blackout was a small heartbreak. I would watch the ice melt and calculate, in my head, exactly how much I was losing.

When Kojo told me about Gesung, I was cautious. I have been sold many promises. But he did not promise; he simply asked me to try. The installers came in the morning and by afternoon my freezer was humming on stored sunlight.

The first evening, when the whole street went dark and my shop stayed bright, customers walked straight to my door. Children came to charge their lamps. A neighbour asked to sit just to feel the fan. My little shop became the light of the street.

I am a grandmother now, and I will tell you plainly: this is dignity. To open when I choose, to keep my stock, to greet my customers under my own steady light. That is what "Africa, Powered" means to me — not a slogan, but my Tuesday evening.

Africa, Powered.
